Janet’s Executive Functions CV
Janet’s Executive Functions CV
Whilst studying towards a Master of Specialist Teaching in Learning and Behaviour Janet completed a research paper about executive functions through Massey University. Graduating in March 2017 she continued to be interested in executive functions and wrote her first book, ’The Executive Functions Toolkit for Classroom Teachers’ which she self-published in November 2018. Since then she has written two more toolkits about executive functions, 'Growing Self-regulating Kids: The Executive Functions Toolkit for Parents’ self-published in February 2022, and ‘Mastering the 3Rs: The Executive Functions Toolkit for Reading, Writing and Arithmetic’ self-published in October 2026.
Executive functions, is an umbrella term for a set of cognitive skills and processes that enable people to make decisions, solve problems and manage their own thinking and behaviour in order to achieve future goals. The three core executive functions are response inhibition, cognitive flexibility and working memory. The higher order executive functions are organisation, time management, goal setting planning/prioritising and task initiation. These critical life skills (executive functions) help us to be self-managing, self-motivating, self-monitoring and ultimately self-regulating. Executive functions are all about actions: not what we know, but how we use what we know to get things done.
